One of the great perks of my job is to be able to carefully approach incredible species like this mountain gorilla in the spectacular virunga mountains. another privilege is to work with inspirational people. very soon dr. jane goodall and i are coming out with a book together. with this book we want celebrate biodiversity and the remaining beauty on earth and to inspire everyday choices for better more sustainable world. these mountain gorillas, for example, are still critically endangered and only approximately 875 are left in the wild in the virungas. they are powerful, intelligent and pacifistic all at the same time but they need help to survive! maintaining a sound population of mountain gorillas and keeping their forests in balance is actually the best way to secure long term stability for people, nature, climate and the region's economy. more to follow on our new book. please stay tuned! #janegoodall#silverback#mountaingorilla#nikonambassador#wwf#igcp#iucn#virunga#mattiasklum #fritankeförlag #protectbiodiversity@natgeo@thephotosociety@irisalexandrov@alexandrovklumofficial@rootsandshoots@janegoodallinst
Time for some real talk —
i feel so grateful lately to be surrounded by beautiful humans who genuinely care about creating a better more harmonious future.
.however, the reality is, that here in the us, simply by living as an average inhabitants within the infrastructure of this land, we consume far more than our share of energy and resources, and produce more than our share of waste and pollution.
.personally i’ve been striving to minimize my footprint, by making daily choices such as
• using sustainable means of transport (walk/run/bike/bus)
• avoiding disposable products whenever possible
• avoiding plastic and petro-chemicals whenever possible
• wearing second-hand clothes
• eating a plant-based minimally-processed organic diet
• avoiding air transport unless absolutely necessary
.these are just some of the things that come to mind, and they already take a lot of effort and discipline. but yet i still find myself wanting to do much much more, and sadly not many people around me seem to be awake yet to our need to shift away from a consumer lifestyle.
.this year, i would like to invite more conversations around these matters, since the time truly is now, and we really are the ancestors of the future!
.let’s envision a better way together. who’s in the club? who’s got ideas, and who’s willing to be the change? 🙋🏻♀️
