Photo by @irablockphoto/ the last glow of light on the diomede islands in the bering stait, situated between alaska and siberia. little diomede, in the foreground is part of the united states with a small indigenous population of inupiat inuit that survive by fishing in the summer and hunting in the winter. big diomede, a part of russia had its local population relocated and is now a military base. the islands are separated not only by national affiliation, but also by the international dateline, which runs through the small stretch of bering sea between the island group. the islands were part of the wide expense that was a land bridge between asia and the new world when the area had no water during a glacial period in history. #followme @irablockphoto to see more images @thephotosociety @natgeocreative - - - #diomede #littlediomede #beringstrait #beringsea #landbridge
